The typically day starts with pooja to well by the women. The “laxmi pooja” and “Balipadya (ಬಲಿಪಾಡ್ಯ)” then follows. The very special in this occasion is on “Narak Chaturdashi“(ನರಕ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿ). The day starts with oil bath in the morning, the aarati pooja from women to all the family members. The interesting thing here is the, the family members who got aarati has to press the Hindalkayee (ಹಿಂಡ್ಲಕಾಯೀ) (a fruit bitter in taste) by their foot (as shown in image) and taste it. Then they will throw it on the rooftop of the house from their left hand.
The break fast special on this day is “Bellad Avalaki” with sweets. The breakfast is shared to neighbors as well.
The other main event is “Balindra Pooja” (ಬಲೀಂದ್ರ ಪೂಜಾ). The few families follows their ancestors rituals of Balindra Pooja in this region. On this day ladies of the families do the pooja to well in the evening auspicious hour . Post this Bali Chakaravarthy moorthi or idol will be installed in the house with offering “Bellada Avalakki (ಬೆಲ್ಲದ ಅವಲಕ್ಕಿ)” as naivedya (ನೈವೇದ್ಯ). All these 4 days, different varieties of “naivedya” will be offered to Bali Chakravrthy (ಬಲಿ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ). Although people will follow their own ancestor followed rituals. But this is the most commonly followed.
The fort for balindra is built in front of the house. The pooja will be done to the fort and Balindra moorthy will be kept for couple of hours on the day of “Balipadya“
