The place is contributed for Independent Movement, has also contributed many aspects of social and cultural movement. There are people who contributed for rich Art, Literature, Education and folk literature. People have won state and national level awards for their work in folk songs and nature building.

Dinakara Desai (ದಿನಕರ ದೇಸಾಯಿ) is a poet, writer, educationist, and political activist. He is famous for his poetry form called chutuku (also known as Chutuku Brahma). Chutuka (ಚುಟುಕು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ) or chutuku is a quadraplet poem. This format was later adopted by other poets. He has made major contributions towards the literary development of the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.

 The “Kanara Welfare Trust” started by Dinakar Desai, celebrated Golden Jubilee recently. It has today 37 schools in 18 centers with more than 10,000 students. The man Dinakar indeed brought sunshine to umpteen number of down trodden. He served a Member of Indian Parliament for one term. He was defeated twice in his own constituency –due to ignorance of the people and India’s notorious caste politics. 

Sukri Bomma Gowda (ಸುಕ್ರಿ ಬೊಮ್ಮು ಗೌಡ)
Sukri Bommagowda is a folk singer belonging to the Halakki Vokkaliga tribe in Karnataka, India. She has received several awards, including the Padma Shri (ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ), one of India’s highest civilian honours, for her contributions to the arts, and her work in preserving traditional tribal music. She is fondly known as “Nightingale of Halakis”.

Tulsi Gowda (ತುಳಸೀ ಗೌಡ)
Padmashri Awarde (ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ) Tulsi Gowda hails from Honnalli village in Ankola taluk.
She has nurtured more than 40,000 trees so far. Even at the age of 72 years, she is determined to plant saplings and nurture them like her children, till they grow into trees. Tulasi has been doing this for the past six decades without any expectations. She has knowledge of the species of each sapling she has planted, the benefits of each plant and the quantum of water required to grow them. Her knowledge of plants is no less than any botanist. She is leaving no stone unturned to create awareness among people about the conservation of forests.

Vaidya Shivu Bommu Gouda (ವೈದ್ಯ ಬೊಮ್ಮು ಶಿವೂ ಗೌಡ)
  The place Belambar (ಬೆಳಂಬಾರ) is famous for the treatment of paralysis (ಬೆಳಂಬಾರ ತೈಲ). The people across the state and state visit this place for the paralytic treatment.

Vaidya Late Shivu Bommu Gouda Memorial Hospital been built and his son treats the patient. The people from national and international got visited for the paralytic treatment.

Mahatma Gandhi was treated for paralysis. Even today the place is on record.

G H Nayak
Govindaray H. Nayak (born 18 September 1935) is a Kannada poet, writer and professor who was awarded the Central Sahitya Akademi Award for Kannada language for 2014 for his work Sanskrit Chintana.

Nayak was born in Surve near Ankola, a village in coastal Karnataka, India. In 1951, Nayak earned his high school diploma from Peoples Multi-purpose High School, Ankola. He was a professor of Kannada at University of Mysore.

There are few people who are well known in Kannada Literature and folk Literature circle in state and national level as well.

Naming few are Dr. N R Nayak and Shanti Nayak, Professor M S Habbu, Mrs. Sunanda Prakash Kadame, Professor Ramakrishna Gundhi.
